Nine people have died following the attack on mourners at a Greek Orthodox church in Jordan’s Karak governorate, according to the country’s official news agency, Petra.
The Public Security Directorate announced on Saturday, 24 October, that another injured person had died, raising the toll to nine. The shooting took place in Hamoud village on Friday, 23 October.
Petra’s funeral announcement on Sunday reported nine deaths and 34 injured. It said funeral processions would converge at the burial site in Hamoud, opposite the church where the attack occurred.
Reuters separately reported 40 wounded. The figures therefore differ; this report uses Petra’s latest official injury count without treating the discrepancy as resolved.
Correction: An earlier Universaladage editorial package gave the death toll as eight. The confirmed total is nine.
