Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has returned to her country after nearly 10 months abroad, announcing her arrival on Sunday, 25 October.
Machado posted a brief message on social media saying she was back with Venezuelans. Her ally, former presidential candidate Edmundo González, also confirmed her return.
Images released by her press team showed her appearing at a church in Lara state, Reuters reported. El País identified the gathering as the Divina Pastora Shrine in Barquisimeto, where supporters welcomed her.
Machado left Venezuela in December 2025 after an extended period in hiding. Her return restores her physical presence in the country’s opposition movement, although it does not itself establish an agreement on elections or a political transition.
The circumstances of her journey and the arrangements governing her return were not established in the announcements reviewed.
