Jay-Z will headline the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show, marking a major new chapter in his career as the rapper and entertainment executive prepares to perform at an event his company has helped produce for seven years.
The National Football League, Apple Music and Roc Nation confirmed the announcement on Monday, October 26.
The performance is scheduled for February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, during Super Bowl LXI.
It will be Jay-Z's first appearance as a Super Bowl halftime performer.
The decision carries particular significance because Roc Nation, the entertainment company he founded, has worked with the NFL since 2019 to advise on live music and help select and produce halftime performances.
Through that partnership, Jay-Z has played an influential role in bringing some of the world's biggest artists to the event.
Now, after years of helping shape the show from behind the scenes, he will take the stage himself.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell welcomed the announcement, recalling that he had hoped Jay-Z would eventually perform when the timing was right.
The show will arrive during a period of renewed attention to the rapper's musical legacy.
Throughout 2026, Jay-Z has celebrated the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, alongside the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint.
Those celebrations have included major live performances and appearances with prominent artists from across his career.
Born Shawn Carter, Jay-Z emerged from New York's hip-hop scene during the 1990s and became one of the most influential figures in contemporary music.
His catalogue includes Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, The Black Album and 4:44, alongside major songs such as 99 Problems, Hard Knock Life and Empire State of Mind, his collaboration with Alicia Keys.
He has won 25 Grammy Awards and built an extensive business portfolio spanning entertainment, artist management, sports and other ventures.
His involvement with the Super Bowl has also helped shape the event's modern musical identity.
Since Roc Nation began working with the NFL, halftime productions have featured major performers from hip-hop, R&B, pop and Latin music, reflecting the show's growing cultural reach.
The 2026 halftime performance was headlined by Bad Bunny, following Kendrick Lamar's appearance in 2025.
Jay-Z's selection continues that emphasis on influential artists whose music has reached audiences beyond their original genres and markets.
The 2027 event will also be a major broadcasting occasion.
Super Bowl LXI is scheduled to air on ABC and ESPN, with streaming coverage through Disney+ and other authorised platforms.
Roc Nation will executive produce the halftime show, with Hamish Hamilton directing.
The NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation have not announced additional guest performers or a set list.
Those details are expected to become clearer as preparations continue.
The Super Bowl halftime show regularly attracts enormous international attention, generating significant interest in artists' catalogues, performances and cultural influence.
For Jay-Z, the announcement represents an unusual transition from helping determine who occupies one of music's most prominent stages to becoming its featured performer.
The performance itself remains months away, but his selection is now officially confirmed.
