Disney+ Becomes Global Streaming Home of Formula E
Disney+ will become the global streaming home of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship under a new multi-year agreement covering 144 territories, significantly expanding Disney’s push into live sports and Formula E’s international digital reach.
The partnership, announced on August 11, 2026, begins with Formula E’s 2026/27 season. Every race weekend will be available live on Disney+, including practice sessions, qualifying and races. In the United States, coverage will also be available through ESPN+.
Subscribers will additionally have access to race previews, reviews, highlights, analysis, behind-the-scenes programming and full race replays on demand. Formula E says the Disney agreement will operate alongside its existing free-to-air and traditional television partnerships rather than replacing them.
The agreement arrives as Formula E prepares to introduce its GEN4 era, featuring a new generation of electric race cars capable of producing 600kW, equivalent to more than 815 horsepower. Formula E says the cars can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in approximately 1.8 seconds.
The 2026/27 championship is scheduled to feature 21 races across 13 events, beginning in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in December and concluding in Tokyo in July 2027.
Formula E chief executive Jeff Dodds described the Disney agreement as a major step in expanding the championship's global audience. Disney Entertainment's direct-to-consumer leadership similarly positioned Formula E as a combination of sport, technology and sustainability suited to the company's worldwide streaming platform.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Reuters independently confirmed the multi-year deal and the 144-territory distribution plan.
The agreement also adds another major live property to Disney’s international streaming strategy at a time when sports rights are becoming increasingly important to streaming platforms seeking programming capable of attracting audiences in real time.
