Carly Simon Returns With First Original Album in 18 Years
Carly Simon has released Comes in Waves, her first album of original songs in 18 years, marking a major return for the Grammy-winning American singer-songwriter.
The 12-track album arrived on August 14, 2026 and follows This Kind of Love, Simon’s last full collection of original material, released in 2008. Apple Music lists the project at 43 minutes and credits it to Carly Simon / C’EST Music.
Much of Comes in Waves was written and recorded around Simon’s home on Martha’s Vineyard. On her official website, Simon describes the record as a collection shaped by love, grief, joy, loss and the return of creativity during a period when she had largely stepped away from public life.
The album opens with “Howl,” which Simon released ahead of the project. She has described the song as moving through anger, betrayal and eventually forgiveness.
Other tracks include “Maybe I Never Loved You,” “Peaches,” “Mother of Pearl,” “Slowly,” “Four in the Morning,” “The Father Daughter Dance” and “Do It Anyway.”
The project also brings members of Simon’s family into the recording process. Her son Ben Taylor contributed as a singer, musician, producer and songwriter, while daughter Sally Taylor contributed vocals and artwork. Longtime collaborators including Paul Samwell-Smith and Frank Filipetti were also involved.
The release carries additional significance following Simon’s recent disclosure that she has been living with Parkinson’s disease and underwent treatment for skin cancer. In comments published around the album, she said music gave structure and purpose to days affected by illness.
