Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Crosses ₦1 Billion in Nigeria in Nine Days
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has crossed ₦1 billion at the Nigerian box office just nine days after release, setting a new speed record for a film reaching the milestone in the country.
West African distributor FilmOne Entertainment announced the milestone through its official social-media channels, describing the performance as another record for the Nigerian theatrical market. BusinessDay separately reported on August 10 that the film is currently the highest-grossing release of 2026 in Nigeria and the leading film of the year across Anglo-West Africa, according to FilmOne data.
The Marvel and Sony Pictures release had already generated more than ₦720 million in Nigeria before reaching the billion-naira mark. That included about ₦120 million from advance screenings and approximately ₦605 million during its conventional three-day opening weekend.
Its opening weekend drew 101,706 admissions, making it only the second film in West African box-office history to surpass 100,000 admissions during an opening weekend, according to the figures reported by BusinessDay. Avengers: Endgame was the previous film to cross that threshold.
The performance comes during an unusually strong period for major theatrical releases globally. Brand New Day has also crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide, while Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey has reached the same milestone during the current summer season.
But the Nigerian result is significant on its own.
A ₦1 billion gross reached in nine days suggests that Nigerian cinemas can generate substantial revenue quickly when a release has the combination of franchise recognition, strong marketing and event-level audience interest.
