Nigerian music veteran 2Baba has announced a new album titled Oldest Young Man, opening a fresh chapter in a career that has stretched across more than two decades of Nigerian pop music.
The singer, whose real name is Innocent Idibia, revealed the project through his official Instagram account on August 20, writing that he had “lived it” and “seen it” before confirming that the new album is “coming soon.”
No release date, tracklist or guest features were announced with the initial reveal. That means reports assigning a specific date or collaborators to Oldest Young Man should be treated as unconfirmed until 2Baba or his team releases further details.
The announcement arrives as 2Baba prepares to begin The Baba Experience, an eight-city UK and Ireland tour opening in London on August 21 before moving through Manchester, Sunderland, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Reading and Derby and concluding in Dublin on September 11.
The timing puts the album announcement alongside a renewed international push from one of Nigerian music’s longest-standing stars. 2Baba first rose to prominence as a member of Plantashun Boiz before establishing a solo career that produced records including “African Queen” and helped shape the growth of contemporary Nigerian pop beyond the country.
His latest album announcement is also notable because earlier reports this year had linked him to a project titled Born Again. The new direct statement from the artist now identifies Oldest Young Man as his forthcoming album, making his August 20 announcement the strongest current source for the project’s title.
