Netflix Nearly Doubles US Upfront Ad Commitments
Netflix says advertising commitments from its 2026 US upfront nearly doubled from last year, as the streaming company continues to build a larger advertising business around entertainment, live sports and its own ad technology.
The company closed deals across all major agency partners, although it did not disclose the dollar value of the commitments. Netflix said the result was in line with its expectations. Independent advertising-industry coverage has also confirmed the increase.
Demand was particularly strong around live programming. Netflix said sponsorships for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup have already sold out, while almost all available in-game advertising inventory has also been booked. Advertisers also committed around properties including NFL games, WWE and MLB programming.
The company is also expanding how brands can buy advertising on the platform. Pause ads can now be purchased programmatically through major demand-side platforms, while Netflix is introducing AI tools capable of adapting existing brand assets into pause-ad formats.
Its advertising platform is now connected with Google Display & Video 360, Amazon, Yahoo and The Trade Desk. Netflix has also rolled out conversion, reach and audience APIs that it says can optimise advertising purchases in real time.
Another part of the expansion involves interactive advertising. Netflix recently introduced “Send to Phone” placements and Frame Ads, while its US advertising measurement system has received its first accreditation from the Media Rating Council for reporting video impressions across connected TV, mobile and desktop.
The growth comes as streaming platforms increasingly compete with traditional television for major brand budgets. Netflix’s ad-supported business is still relatively young, but the latest upfront indicates that advertisers are becoming more comfortable committing larger portions of their media budgets to the platform.
