Tyla Returns Home for Second SAMA International Achievement Award
South African star Tyla is set to receive the International Achievement Award for the second time at the 32nd South African Music Awards, as the ceremony returns to Sun City on Saturday, August 15.
The award recognises Tyla’s continued international success and makes her only the second artist after Black Coffee to receive the honour twice, according to the South African Music Awards.
SAMA32 is being held at the Sun City Superbowl in South Africa’s North West province, with the main ceremony scheduled for Saturday evening.
Tyla first received the International Achievement Award at SAMA30 in 2024, when she emerged as one of the ceremony’s biggest winners. Her return comes after another period of international visibility for the Johannesburg-born singer.
Her global breakthrough began with “Water,” which took South African amapiano-influenced pop into mainstream international charts and won the inaugural Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance in 2024. She returned to the category in 2026 and won again with “Push 2 Start.”
The Recording Industry of South Africa, which organises the SAMAs, announced Tyla’s latest honour ahead of the ceremony and framed her return as a homecoming following her continued international expansion.
Tyla is not the only major figure receiving special recognition at this year’s ceremony. Veteran producer, DJ and music executive Oskido will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award, recognising a career that has helped shape South African dance music and the country’s wider recording industry.
The awards span South Africa’s contemporary music landscape, including amapiano, hip-hop, gospel, jazz, pop and traditional music.
